Please consider participating and help us continue the advancement of cervid management and care!
*New and current clients welcome*
Each year, the American Association of Small Ruminant Practitioners (AASRP) provides scientific grants in support of research directed towards health and management of ruminant species. We are privileged to announce that our proposal addressing parasite management in cervid species has been selected as a 2023 grant recipient!
Selection as a recipient is an exciting opportunity for Aggieland Veterinary Services to contribute to the cervid industry. But we need your collaboration to complete our study and respectfully invite you to participate!
Before you decide, we would like to introduce the project and what we hope it will accomplish.
Below, you will find information regarding our focus and goals, as well as what involvement would entail.
We ask that you review the information carefully at a time convenient to you. Should you have any questions, our team would be happy to discuss further. In addition, we encourage you to refer other cervid producers to us for participation! We appreciate your time and consideration and look forward to continuing our partnership!
Sincerely,
Dr. Lauren Brady & the AVS Team
Participation in our research will provide immediate benefits to your animals as well as value to the industry as a whole!
Not a current client? No problem! We still hope you'll consider reaching out to participate!
Internal parasite control is critical for maintaining both healthy herds and environments. However, parasite management in cervids poses unique challenges for producers. As a result, excessive deworming and product use are quickly leading to resistance of parasites, and available dewormers are becoming less effective.
With only a small number of dewormers feasible for use in our sector, there is great need for improved practices for parasite management. Concern for resistance may seem minimal today, but the long-term consequences will be detrimental to the industry.
Recent progress in cervid production offers the prime opportunity for producers and veterinarians to collaborate and expand methods of parasite control. Our research aims to support this effort and will seek to validate a field-based technique for producers to utilize routinely as part of their management.
As an added benefit, participants receive various direct and immediate benefits in their herd management programs such as complimentary diagnostic tests and discounted herd health services!
